The Mayor and members of the Town Council shall be elected for two (2) years and shall hold office from the first Monday in March following their elections for two (2) years thereafter or until their successors are elected and qualified.

  • Qualifications

    No person shall be eligible to occupy a seat on the Town Council unless he or she shall have attained or will attain the age of twenty-one(21) years by the date of the election and shall have reside within the corporate boundaries of the Town of Friendsville for at least six (6) months prior to the election. He or she shall be qualified voter in Town elections. The Council shall be the judge of the qualification of its members.
  • Elections - Term of Office - Appointments

    The election of the Mayor and three (3) members of the Town Council whose terms shall expire on the first Monday in March in the second year (even year) of their term, shall be held on the second Tuesday, in February, and those elected shall hold office for a term of two (2) years from the date of their election and qualification. The election of three (3) members of the Council whose terms shall expire on the first Monday in March in the second year (odd year) of their term, shall be held the second Tuesday in February and those elected shall hold office for a term of two (2) years from the date of their election and qualification. If during the even year only one candidate runs for Mayor and no more than three candidates for Town Council, then there will not be an election and they will be declared elected. If during the odd year no more than three candidates run for Town Council, then there will not be an election and they will be declared elected.

  • Nomination By Petition

    The Mayor and Town Council of Friendsville, in lieu of any primary election, shall cause to be placed on the official ballot of the Town the name of any registered voter of the Town who fulfills the qualification for the office he or she seeks and who delivers to the Town of Friendsville Clerk-Treasurer on or before the second Monday in January by 12:00 noon, a petition asking to be placed on said ballot, setting forth his or her name, residence, a statement that he or she is of sufficient age to seek and hold such office, whether he or she is a citizen of the United States, the length of time he or she has resided in the Town of Friendsville, and the office which he or she seeks.

  • Notice of Voter Registration

    Voter registration will be available for residents of the Town of Friendsville who are not registered with the Garrett County Board of Elections or have not previously registered with the Town.

    Voter registration will be held at the municipal building (Town Hall) in the Council Chambers on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    This registration is for the upcoming 2026 Municipal Election.

    Town of Friendsville residents will cast their ballots for Mayor and three Council Members in the February 10, 2026, municipal election. The following members of the current Town Government are eligible to seek reelection: Mayor Spencer R. Schlosnagle and Council Members Pamela S. Humberson, Edward B. Kelley, and Michael E. Artice. Their current two-year terms will expire on the first Monday of March 2026.
